Hiring and Development Plan essay

Hiring and Development Plan essay Hiring and Development Plan essay Hiring and Development Plan essay  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Today the role of Human Relations managers is crucial in the successful development of any company. Every day companies face a wide range of complex challenges, which affect the functioning of management and employee performance. According to researchers, the way â€Å"managers handles these challenges directly affects employees and their performance†(Hodgetts Hegar, 2007, p.5). Human relations process allows managers to bring employees into contract with the company in a way that help to achieve the established goals of both groups. Any company is focused on three goals: the company’s survival, growth and profitability. Amy employee is concerned with the following goals: â€Å"good pay, adequate working conditions, a chance to interact with other personnel, and the opportunity to do interesting and meaningful work† (Hodgetts Hegar, 2007, p.5). It becomes clear that any company seeks talented employees for the required position, providing them abundant opportunities for personal and professional growth (Aswathappa, 2005; Byars, 2010). A Human Relations Manager is focused on creating successful planning that will work best for the company and employees. The application of successful hiring and development activities guarantees positive outcomes and contributed to the company’s productivity. Actually, hiring process includes a number of activities, e.g. job analysis, job design, advertisement and mediums and other practices aimed at hiring the best candidates. Once a Company hired a new employee, it is appropriate to work out a development plan in order to create a successful and contributing member of the team. A Human Relations Manager should take into consideration all the required components of the plan.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   As a Human Relations Manager for the company, I am dedicated to human relations function. I am focused on h iring and training employees, overseeing labor relations, as well as the human side of business. Any company should have an effective Human Resource Management team aimed at the utilization of employees’ skills and abilities to achieve the established organizational goals (Aswathappa, 2005; Byars, 2010). As a professional Human Relations specialist, I will work hard to find, train and motivate employees. I am competent in hiring, training new employees, resolving various internal work-related complaints, as well as in planning effective growth strategies with executives of our company.   As a Human Relations specialist, I will hire and motivate employees based on the established hiring and development plan. The major goal of this paper is to outline a hiring process from scratch which includes a discussion beginning job analysis, job design, advertisement and mediums, and continue through the actual hiring process, therefore creating the hiring plan.   Besides, it is neces sary to represent a successful development plan in order to create a successful and contributing member of the team.Creating a Hiring Plan  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   It is known that effective hiring process needs the creation of an effective hiring plan. This plan should be worked out before the beginning of the interview process. According to Kathleen Kennedy-Luczak and Carol E. Thompson (2005), â€Å"having an effective recruiting plan in place keeps the time a job remain open to a minimum, and avoids the risk that your company may be caught with orders it cannot fill, or jobs that may not be completed on time† (p. 6). Besides, an effective hiring plan guarantees uniformity of the whole hiring process and helps to avoid any employment discrimination practices.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   As the hiring process in our company is a complex one, it is very important to use the proper skills and professional experience to meet the companyâ€℠¢s needs. As a Human Relations Manager for the company, I should use my personal experience and knowledge to review the resumes or application forms and determine if the candidate for the required job position meets the qualifications of this job position.Outline of the Hiring Process  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   In order to outline a hiring process, it is necessary to creating a hiring committee that will be responsible for overseeing the major procedures of the hiring process. The hiring committee should consist of 3 members, who possess the required skills and professional experiences in the hiring process (Byars, 2010). The hiring committee members should be ready to set the appropriate timeline for the hiring process.Job AnalysisJob analysis can be viewed as â€Å"the backbone of human resource function, forming the basis of all tasks in a well-managed human resource department† (Foster, 2010, p. 587). The term job analysis can be defined as a comprehensiv e systematic process aimed at providing important information on job position, describing the job and comparing it with other jobs. As a Human Relations Manager, I am interested in â€Å"examining, documenting and drawing inferences about job activities, worker attributes, and work context† (Foster, 2010, p. 588).As a Human Relations Manager for the company, I will effectively use the information generated from job analysis. I will be involved in some necessary personnel practices, such as â€Å"writing job descriptions, establishing and conducting recruitment and selection process, conducting periodic performance appraisals, establishing employee training and development needs and establishing the level of pay for a job† (Foster, 2010, p. 588).First, I will create an effective job description. This activity stands for representation of a 1to 4 page summary of the required tasks, duties and responsibilities that are essential for the job position. I will provide a brie f summary to make it easy for the applicants and hiring committee members to evaluate all the requirements for the job position.Second, I will create job evaluation. According to Foster (2010), â€Å"the process of job evaluation attaches a dollar value, or worth, to the job†(p. 589). In this activity, I will pay due attention to the job’s duties and responsibilities and compare the pay rates for the similar job positions.Job DesignJob design is an important procedure as it includes the professional assessment of the required tasks, duties and responsibilities for the job position. I realize that I can change some aspects of job design to improve employee productivity and employee motivation.   I will use my professional skills and experience to make job expectations clear, organizing the established employee tasks, duties and responsibilities into an effective unit. As a Human Relations specialist, I will use different approaches for job design, including job simpli fication, job enlargement, job enrichment, job rotation, and job sharing.Advertisement and MediumsThe required positions can be advertised both internally and externally. Today there are many opportunities to hire candidates. I can use different approaches, including newspaper advertising, the Internet ads (e.g. the Internet job boards), social networking ads, job fairs, college recruiting, search firms and other approaches to hiring new employees. However, I will the Internet ads and social networking, as these approaches are the most effective searching tactics today. According to results of the joint poll conducted by the Society for Human Resource Management, many employers and employees use networking and personal contacts to achieve the established goals in searching process (Kennedy-Luczak Thompson, 2005).As a Human Relations Manager for the company, I will place a job announcement on a web-based resume board. In case, I need to find a candidate in a very short space of time , I will use the services of an external recruiter. According to experts, â€Å"external recruiters know where and how to find the most suitable candidates, whether these candidates are in the market for a new job or not† (Rothman, 2013, p. 34). Besides, external recruiters can help to find the employees who possess unique skills (technical and non-technical skills), qualities and preferences. Undoubtedly, I will pay the fee for external recruiters’ services.Selection process in the hiring procedureThe selection process requires mutual decision making concerning the candidate for the required job position. All hiring committee members should be involved in the process of selection new employees. According to researchers, â€Å"selection is a long process, commencing from the preliminary interview of the applicants and ending with the contract of employment†(Aswathappa, 2005, p. 158).   In our company, the selection process is focused on professionalism of the hiring committee members. As a Human Relations Manager, I realize that there are several factors that may affect the process of selection. These factors include â€Å"supply and demand of specific skills in the labor market, unemployment rate, labor market conditions, legal and political considerations, company’s image, company’s policy, HRP, and cost of hiring† (Aswathappa, 2005, p. 159).  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   Screening procedure in the selection processThe process of screening helps to remove unqualified candidates for the required job position. I will evaluate all critical characteristics of candidates to determine if each person from the list of job candidates is qualified for the required job position. As a Human Relation Manager, I realize that the screening procedure helps to facilitate the subsequent stages of the selection process, based on practical management initiatives (Aswathappa, 2005; Byars, 2010).  Hiring and Development P lan essay part 2

Analysis of Ernest Hemingways short story Soldiers Home Research Paper

Analysis of Ernest Hemingways short story Soldiers Home - Research Paper Example This paper will first analyze the main characters of the story, then will focus on the symbolic element in the story and will analyze it, finally ending with an analysis of the setting in the story. Character Analysis Harold Krebs: He is the protagonist and the story chronicles his war experiences, and his problem in adjusting to his home place. Krebs gets enlisted in the army and moves to Europe during the First World War, where he undergoes both enlightened and at the same time traumatic experiences. Tormented by those war experiences, Krebs reenters his home town but finds it difficult to live a normal life and interact with the people there. His dejection further accentuates, when the people in the town, avoid listening to his wartime stories. Due to pressure from his mother to marry and have children, Krebs becomes further disillusioned and even decides to move out of the town. However, towards the end of the story, he understands that he cannot keep on holding on to his war exp eriences, particularly when that negatively impacts his current life. He calmly decides not to think about his past as well as future, and instead take things as they come, and goes to see his sister play a baseball game. Thus, his character undergoes various transformations, from a war hero to a depressed soul, and then finally a nonchalant person. Mrs. Harold: Harold's mother is portrayed as a very religious woman, who feels for his son’s difficulty in adjusting to the normal life in the town. She tries her best to aid her son to come out of his post-war trauma, but that did not work out favorably. However, her efforts were more of pressure to Krebs than being constructive. Without understanding the trauma her son underwent in the war, she continuously nags Krebs to discard his war experiences and start living a normal life immediately. â€Å"Krebs' small-town mother cannot comprehend her son's struggles and sufferings caused by the war.† (Imamura 102). In addition, she further pushed him to get a job, marry a girl and have children, by comparing with other boys in the community. â€Å"The boys are all settling down; they’re all determined to get somewhere†¦ Charley Simmons, who is just your age has a good job and is going to be married† (Hemmingway 115). Thus, the character of Mrs. Harold is of a mother, who although wants a good life for his son, mistakenly pressurize him. Mr. Harold: Harold's father never makes any kind of direct appearance in the story, and instead he is mainly ‘referred’ by Mrs. Harold during her conversations with Krebs. Mrs. Harold uses the character of father mainly to validate the advices she gave to Krebs to make him return to normal life. â€Å"Your father thinks you have lost your ambition, that you haven't got a definite aim in life.† (Hemingway 115). However, it seems that Krebs did not have much of a father-son relationship with Mr. Harold, with the mother being the only com municator between them. Thus, the character of Mr. Harold does not have a major role to play. However, this â€Å"non-committal† presence of the father’s character in a way reflects the mindset of Krebs. As stated by Baerdemaeker (32), â€Å"in an extra Oedipal twist, Krebs becomes exactly like his father: non-committal.† Helen Krebs: Harold's younger sister, Helen is an indoor baseball player, and although she does not have a

The Mis Management Decision Making Problems

The Mis Management Decision Making Problems The situation given here is lacking in the things which are very important for the business performance and in management decision making. Less time consumption and more output is most important part of best business performance and management decision making. But in the case mentioned above, waste of time is very much as the whole week is used by the company to collect the spreadsheets from the heads of outlets and these outlets are more than 30 across the GCC. And not only collection is the job after that consolidation and re entering of all the data into another spreadsheets and this whole process is also time consuming. Utilization of more time declines the performance of the business time is the factor which allows the competitors to capture the market. Management decision making is based on the analysis of performance but in the case above there is no time to analyze the performance as the collection process is taking so much time that no time is left for making decisions. So t his results in poor management decision making. Decision is made on the data management but in this case there is no management process and everything depends on that financial analyst and that one week of collection and re entering of spreadsheets. Scenario 2- Ques- What is the business impact of this situation? Ans- There is immense business impact as the situation is worth thinkable as they are facing so many problems with the ownership of the mom-and-pop business at one of the costliest place in the world that is Abu Dhabi. The business is facing a downfall every second which does not seems to be improved in the near future due to various reasons as there is not enough of the sales persons involved in the which mainly results in the short and lose of a sale as the records could not be counted instead their own judgment plays an important role. There could be extent loss which is faced by the owners Jasim and Mariam. So the impact on the business could be worst if the business is not handled tactfully. Ques- How could information systems help Jasim and Mariam run their business? Ans- There are many information systems which means the combination of Information technology and the activities related to the people where technology is used to operate the management which is a much need of the corporation that is mom-and-pop business running in Abu-Dhabi, mainly it is a form of communication which can support human decision making and action of the people where it is suitable for the business as it could not be handled by the two persons which are facing many problems related to the management. Ques- What data should these systems capture? Ans- There are various sector on which the information system which act as a special type of work system as it work like a human to abstract the data like humans use the resources to produce a specific product or services for customers. The main problem which is faced is about the management of the business which cannot be handled by the owners of the company which is best suitable work for the Information system whose activities are dedicated to the processing which includes transmitting, manipulating, displaying, storing, capturing and retrieving that is what required managing the records of the business. There are many problems being faced by the owners which can be reduces through Information system that mainly focus on the information systems discipline and organizational informatics. Ques- What reports should the systems produce? Ans- In present time the information system is the best combination which is meeting up the requirements of the people as there is globalization seen in the market. The result which is produced by the information system is basically the solution for any problem and mainly in the management sector. There should be a permanent solution which should be given by the information system where there should whole procedure mentioned in order to keep the detail records of the shipment arrived. Whole of the system should give the clear report about the things which is to be improved and the process which are to be adopted for the better management. Ques- What decisions could the systems improve? Ans- There are various decision which are getting out of the track as they are not bringing the profit to the business which are the rent which they pay, problem in keeping the detail record, sometimes they face short of sale due to their wrong judgment and many other factors which can be factor in decrement in the sale of the business. The information systems which are used can be helpful in improving the above situation which may reduce the workload from humans as it can keep the records of the sales and the system is considered as the socio-technical system which is a mediator between the actions and technology. The whole of processing could be done through the information system as there are many processes which cannot be handled manually. Scenario 3- Ques- What business problems are created by not having these data in a single standard format? Ans- As there are many items which are currently running under the different database which is to be obtained under the same corporate-wide view of the critical sales information which can result in giving clear view of the best selling products according to the key customers, sales trends and geographic areas. There are many problems which are faced by the company or organization as it could be result in the cumbersome situation to judge the items overall review as it contains many things such as Product ID, Product description, Units sold, Cost per unit, Division, customer ID and many other things which is to be mentioned at the time of overall view of the product, therefore there is a need of single standard view under which there should be judging of the products could take place. Ques- How easy would it be to create a database with a single standard format that could store the data from both systems? Identify the problems that would have to be addressed Ans- It is lot easier to work in a database with a single standard format which could store the data of the two systems containing different products. The product should be defined under the different categories which make it easier for the employees to search a particular data under a particular heading instead there are many problems which are then being faced by the employees as there are many data which does not fall under any categories has to be given a separate heading which captures more space, sometimes the system is overloaded with the data which is stored monthly. So these were some of the problems which is addressed. Ques- Should the problems be solved by data specialists or general business managers? Explain Ans- The problems which are faced in the above situations is not a severe problem which requires any team work or any superficial officer, it can be solved through specialist of that area or sector and the business managers but now it depends on the problem which is faced as it could be technical or problem related to the management. So the problem which is technical could be solved by the Data specialist as heshe would be having greater knowledge of the problem instead of the manager who is mostly having the knowledge regarding the management field as they can handle the workforce working in any sector or area. Ques- Who should have the authority to finalize a single company-wide format for this information in the data warehouse? Ans- There are many people who have authority to finalize the single company-wide format but most of the time there is a discussion or meeting which is held to discuss about the advantages and disadvantages about the format and the result which comes out of the discussion is applicable on the working system as it is the outcome of the great minds working together. So mainly the power is with the CEOs of the company but for the sake of safety there is discussion which is necessary to be performed. Scenario 4: Ques- How could information systems help Paris Gallery management implement this new strategy? Ans Information system provides information on past, present and future project and also gives the information about relevant events inside and outside the organization. In this case the information system could help Paris Gallery management by gathering relevant data about the perfumes, cosmetics, bags, watches, jeweler and accessories and covert them into right information by telling the taste of the local people and would also help in supplying the same products which are matched by the taste of color, size etc of the local people where Paris gallery stores are present.. Information systems also gives information that gives indication about the goodà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s and bad of the new proposed ideas and through the information given by these systems Paris Gallery management could sense the advantages of implementing the new strategy. If the information provided by these systems indicates the failure of the new idea then the Parris Gallery management can change or modify their st rategies. IN these ways the information provided by the system could help in implementing strategy in the perfect way. Ques- What pieces of data should these systems collect to help management make merchandising decisions that support this strategy? Ans For helping the management to make merchandising decisions that support this strategy the pieces of data like the taste of the local people, which products are preferred by the local people, characteristic of products like color, size which are more purchased by the people should be collected by these systems. These systems should collect the information about number of stores that are already selling that type of products, which stores are preferred by the local people should be given to support the planning and control function of manager. These all data should be collected by the information systems for supporting this strategy of Parris gallery management. Scenario 5- 1 What factors should be considered? Ans- There are various factors included in the communications which already exists between the employees in the Oasis medical supplies corporation where telephone services, mobile phones and emails are generally used which is not compatible with the advancement in the technology of equipments so there is requirement of advance, fast and cheap communication where there are various factors play an important role which exists mainly in the unified communication which has main application of deploying powerful speech-enabled self service which is very useful for the purpose it is being used in the corporation where there could be emergency in the requirements to supply to the hospitals, clinics and medical offices. There are around 500 people who are employed in the corporation at several locations in UAE who has to remain in contact every single second that cannot be achieved through the cell phones, emails and various kinds of voice services. 2 What are the key decisions that have to be made in determining whether to adopt this technology? Ans- As there is communication between the employees of the companies the problems arrives when there is some sort of problem while using the traditional telephone services, mobile phones, e-mail and instant messaging instead of which there is another approach to the communication which is known as unified communication. The unified communication has more benefits as compared to the mentioned above communication as it is used in maximizing the existing infrastructure which can help in avoiding investing in the infrastructure sector, there is a stream line end-user communication which helps in adopting the latest versions of communications. The most important benefit is increase in efficiency and reduction in cost which is majorly considered while there is so much communication required in the firm. (Benefits, 2008)

DJ Scratch Info :: essays research papers

Turntablism - The art of manipulating/restructuring previously existing phonograph recordings to produce new, musically creative combinations of sounds using turntables and a mixer. Hamster Style - Normally a DJ setup would be configured with the right turntable playing on the right channel of the mixer and the left turntable playing on the left channel of the mixer. With a hamster style setup, however, the opposite is true. The right turntable plays through the left channel, and the left turntable plays through the right channel. Many DJs find it more comfortable to scratch hamster style since to do many moves it is easier to bounce the fader off of the side of the fader slot using your multiple fingers rather than your thumb. Personally I think that hamster style seems more conducive to flaring and doing continuous crabs. DJ members of the Bullet Proof Scratch Hamsters/Space Travellers crew are most commonly recognized as the first DJs to practice/demonstrate this style thus giving it the nickname "hamster" style. There are two ways to achieve this mixer configuration. One is to physically hook your turntables up to the opposite channels where they c ome into the back of your mixer, and the other is with a hamster switch. Normally a hamster switch only reverses your crossfader's configuration, while physically reversing your turntable cables reverses the crossfader and volume faders' configuration. Hamster Switch - A switch on a mixer that reverses the crossfader without reversing the volume faders so that you can scratch hamster style without physically hooking up the turntables to different channels on the back of the mixer. Baby Scratch - The simplest of scratches, the baby scratch is performed without the use of the crossfader by simple moving the record back and forth. A simple example would be one forward stroke, and one backward stroke (or vice versa) in sequence. Forward and Backward Scratches - Forward and backward scratches are also fairly simple scratches but unlike the baby scratch they are performed using the fader to cut the sound in and out. As an example, to perform 2 forward scratches you would just do two baby scratches with your record hand using your fader hand to cut the sound in when you move the record forward both times and out while you're pulling the record back both times so that all you hear are the 2 forward strokes.

Porters 5 Market Forces Essay

This model focuses on the study of the competitive influences or ‘forces’ on a business. When we discuss competitive factors on a firm, we usually consider other firms within the same industry selling similar products. [1] and although it is true that other firms in the same industry present competition, Porter challenged this over simplified view by considering other forces that will also affect the firms competitive ability . The diagram below highlights the 5 main forces. 2. Potential Entrants into the market This force is concerned with the new firms that may try to enter the same market thereby creating more competition. If a firm anticipates this happening, it may try to raise the barriers to entry, in other words, try make it difficult for new firms to enter their. What barriers may a firm use and why may governments try to stop the barriers to entry? 3. Technical Threat with Substitute goods This is a different threat from those firms selling similar goods as it’s a threat that comes for firms selling alternative/substitute goods. Technology for example has enabled us to use phones to take photographs and this has presented a huge threat to firms producing and selling cameras and camera related products. It is important for a firm to look substitutes and not just similar goods. What substitutes may exist for a restaurant that could impact its sales? 4. Bargaining power of suppliers The power of suppliers will be able to in turn influence the competitive ability of a firm as they will be able to influence the amount and reliability of suppliers as well as the cost if the suppliers. The fewer the number of suppliers the more power the suppliers would have. For example in the micro chip market there are 2 main suppliers, Intel and AMD. These 2 suppliers can make decisions that will in turn influence the competitiveness of the firm. If the suppliers impose penalties and costs when a firm changes over, this too will impact the competitive ability 5. The bargaining power of the buyers Buyers/customers have enormous control over an industry when there are lots of similar and/or alternative goods. Because they can move from one firm to another. If the industry makes it easy for customers to switch to other firms then this also gives the customer more power. The Government introduced a rule for the mobile phone industry that makes it easier for customers to change from one provider to another? What was this rule? What have mobile companies done to try reduce this movement between providers?

Greece essays

Greece essays Greek culture is a major force behind most of what we know today. In government the Greeks practiced pure democracy. The people were given the power to make decisions about their own city-states. Two important city-states were Athens and Sparta. The Athenian empire was created by Pericles who took pride in the beauty of their city. The main temple in Athens was the Parthenon. It was built in the Acropolis in honor of Athena the War Goddess. Sparta was Athens rival and completely opposite of it. They were a city of great warriors who removed boys from their homes at the age of 7 and trained them to fight. Their lives were devoted to their city-state and they were not concerned with individual rights. The Olympic Games were athletic contests held every for years, which would never be delayed, even if there was a war going on. Athens usually won and Sparta usually lost, but one year, Sparta beet Athens, which made their rivalry even stronger. Great philosophers came from Greece. Socrate s was the wisest philosopher of his time. His motto was "know thyself" which he learned from the Oracle at Delphi. He told his students to ask questions to find out the truth. Plato was a student of Socrates. He believed there were three types of people, voters, soldiers and philosophers. He opened an Academy in Athens which paved the way for colleges and universities we have today. Aristotle had a brilliant mind and attended Platos academy. How have ideas about race been shaped by changing economic, social and Essay

How have ideas about race been shaped by changing economic, social and political circumstances - Essay Example Those who belong to a particular ethnic group maintain shared cultural heritages, language, social ideologies, religions, rituals and biological ancestry (Peoples and Bailey 2010). By applying a definition to ethnicity, society is able to make distinctions between different social groups. Race, however, is a construct that is absolutely considerate of anatomical attributes. Race is defined by Cornell and Hartman (2007) as the method by which groups are able to define themselves through the commonality of physical attributes that are shared biologically throughout a society or culture. Race is determined by the meaning that is placed on these shared characteristics. People who share common physical features determine which specific attributes are significant and then attempt to organise groups according to a perceived set of boundaries and then develop social ideologies that give the aforementioned boundaries or characterisation a relevant meaning which serves as the foundation for race. One of my moral values is courage and this helps me to do things even when the incumbent circumstances are unpleasant. Self-control is a moral value the helps me to take charge of my actions, emotions and thoughts. Integrity is another one of my moral values and this helps me to be convinced of the truth and to stand, courageously, by it without giving in to unnecessary pressure (Doty, 2006). However, these values are also moral and decisions that are made based on them can have moral consequences. One of my non-moral values is winning and I like it when I confront challenges and surmount them. Reputation is another non-moral value that I cherish and it pleases me when I meet renowned people and I aspire to be like them. Appreciation is an integral non-moral value in me and I take pleasure in acknowledging other people when they do something good and when other people compliment me. The non-moral value of money makes me endeavor to earn enough money to support others who may depend on me and me (Keech, 2000). Social values are beliefs and qualities that are shared within a group of people or a given culture. A society’s approval of a given quality or belief is what constitutes a social value even though other societies might disapprove that quality or belief.
