Something to Remember You By
Something to Remember You A lock of hair might be fitting (albeit obsolete, overly sentimental, and just plain weird.) A wallet photo maybe? Awkward. So what could you possibly give an editor or agent at a conference to help them remember you or your project once they shuffle back into their office the following Monday? Iââ¬â¢ll tell you: The author one sheet. I recently attended a writerââ¬â¢s conference in which I was scheduled to pitch my new novel. To better my odds, I researched book pitches, and discovered the one sheet ââ¬â a single-paged marketing document, aka author one sheet or pitch sheet, which describes a person, project, or concept. Brilliant! When one considers how many book pitches an editor or agent has endured, or how many queries and manuscripts they have likely slogged through in their career, the odds of an author or book standing out ââ¬â being remembered ââ¬â are not great. Anything you can get into an agentââ¬â¢s hands to take back with them from a conference will help, other than handing them your complete manuscript, of course. Youââ¬â¢d never bring a manuscript to a conference, right? Everything youââ¬â¢ve ever read and heard has stated unequivocally not to. (Admit it ââ¬â you brought it anyway.) Some one sheets are more elaborate, including word count, genre, endorsements, and agent name and contact info ââ¬â designed more for promoting already-published works. Or you could opt for one more basic, including only information that one would find on a back cover of a novel. I chose the latter, since I was seeking publication. At the very least, your one sheet should include: Book title Logline/hook ââ¬â One sentence that describes the concept of your book, and gets their attention. (My entire novel was easier to write.) Blurb ââ¬â Short 3-4 sentence paragraph that describes your book and defines genre/audience. Who is the protagonist, what do they want, whatââ¬â¢s in their way, and most of all, what makes your story unique? Think ââ¬Å"back cover.â⬠Author

Facts and Figures of Eudimorphodon Although its not nearly as well known as Pteranodon or even Rhamphorhynchus, Eudimorphodon holds an important place in paleontology as one of the earliest identified pterosaurs: this smallish reptile hopped around the coastlines of Europe a whopping 210 million years ago, during the late Triassic period. Eudimorphodon had the wing structure (short forelimbs embedded in an extended flap of skin) characteristic of all pterosaurs, as well as a diamond-shaped appendage on the end of its tail that probably helped it to steer or to adjust its course in mid-air. Judging by the structure of its breastbone, paleontologists believe Eudimorphodon may even have had the ability to actively flap its primitive wings. (By the way, despite its name, Eudimorphodon wasnt particularly closely related to the much later Dimorphodon, beyond the fact that both were pterosaurs.) Name: Eudimorphodon (Greek for true dimorphic tooth); pronounced YOU-die-MORE-fo-don Habitat: Shores of Western Europe Historical Period: Late Triassic (210 million years ago) Size and Weight: Wingspan of two feet and a few pounds Diet: Fish, insects and possibly invertebrates Distinguishing Characteristics: Small size; over 100 teeth in snout; diamond-shaped flap on end of the tail Given Eudimorphodons nameGreek for true dimorphic toothyou may surmise that its teeth have been especially diagnostic in tracking the course of pterosaur evolution, and youd be right. Although the snout of Eudimorphodon measured barely three inches long, it was packed with over a hundred teeth, punctuated by six prominent fangs at the end (four on the top jaw and two on the bottom). This dental apparatus, combined with the fact that Eudimorphodon could snap its jaws shut without any spaces between its teeth, points to a diet rich in fishone Eudimorphodon specimen has been identified bearing the fossilized remains of the prehistoric fish Parapholidophorusprobably supplemented by insects or even shelled invertebrates. One of the interesting things about Eudimorphodon is where its type species, E. ranzii, was discovered: near Bergamo, Italy, in 1973, making this one of the most notable prehistoric animals native to Italy.Ã A second named species of this pterosaur, E. rosenfeldi, was later promoted to its own genus, Carniadactylus, while a third, E. cromptonellus, discovered a couple of decades after E. ranzii in Greenland, was subsequently promoted to the obscure Arcticodactylus. (Confused yet? Well, then youll be glad to know that yet another Eudimorphodon specimen discovered in Italy in the 1990s, which had been tentatively classified as an individual of E. ranzii, was likewise kicked up to the newly designated genus Austriadraco in 2015.)

I really like how culturally varied the menu is, however if I had to plan a menu again, I would make sure that the students were getting a fruit and a vegetable every day. I would also try to balance the menu so that it was less carbohydrate heavy on certain days. Play Observation for a Child with Special Needs I observed in a 4 year old classroom. The classroom, as well as the child care center it was in, followed Adlerian psychology. The basic idea of Adlerian psychology is to encourage the development of healthy and cooper ative individuals and families. The student that I focused on was a student that was diagnosed with ADHD. One technique that I noticed a teacher use when working with the child was rewarding the child when he had a good behavior and ignoring negative behavior. I believe the goal of this method was to show the student that the teacher would only pay him attention when he was behaving well. This was an effective strategy because it caused the student to behave in more positive ways. Another technique that I saw was keeping a posted schedule and referring the child to the schedule whenever he asked a question about what was coming next. The goal of this method was to provide a stable, structured schedule for the child to refer to. I believe this was an effective strategy because the child often used it and had a reduced anxiety about what was coming up next. I also noticed that the teacher gave clear behavior expectations before all activities. The goal of this method was to remind the student of what behaviors were acceptable in class. I believe this was an effective strategy because it helped the student to remember how he should behave during activities. The teacher also spoke to the student privately when they were doing more complex activities. The goal of this activity was to reinforce the steps needed to complete the activity and to clarify any steps. The Importance of Budgeting to Avoid Defaulting on Student Loans Students defaulting on their loans will always be a problem for the government as long as there are students taking out loans. There will always be a few that donââ¬â¢t pay off their loans. There are many reasons why students default on their student loans. According Ms. Farrell, the author of ââ¬Å"Reducing Student Loan Defaults: A Plan for Action,â⬠in the Office of Planning, Budget, and Evaluation Survey, said ââ¬Å"The main reason that students default on their loans is that they cannot budget their financesâ⬠(Farrell 24). Even though a number of students are working while going to school, they donââ¬â¢t understand the financial burden that loans will place in their lives. In order for students to pay back their student loans, they need to calculate their in school and out of school budgets. If too many students neglect to pay their loans, it can create a serious problem for students that are currently in school receiving financial aid. A school can be dropped out of the student aid program. Under a current law, colleges and universities can lose access to student loan programs if they have default rate of 25% or above for 3 consecutive years. Institutions can also lose access to all programs, including grants, if the most recent default rate exceeds 40%. The Department of Education just released a list of more than 300 institutions that could lose eligibility for some or all student aid programs, and 144 schools are no longer eligible to participate in student loan programs because of high default rates (Dervarics 6). So we can see how important it is for students to pay their student loans back; so that their school will not be dropped from the student... ...in. A Successful Teacher
Teaching is a special calling. It is not a job well ââ¬â suited to everyone. Teaching is still more of an art than a science. So teachers should be artists in this domain. Teaching should provide an opportunity for students to develop a strong sense of creativity, a high self-esteem a life- long respect for learning. A teacher will be one factor that helps a student learn and progress along their way through life. Many individuals believe that being a teacher is an easy task. Our society believes that any person can become a teacher, but experience has shown that not everyone is capable of being a teacher.There are many personality traits that are required to be an effective teacher. ââ¬Å"How to be a successful teacher? â⬠It is an important question that we can answer by infinite words and endless sentences. However, here are some top keys for being a successful and ideal teacher. Every teacher can benefit from focusing on these important qualities. Success in teaching, a s in most areas of life depends almost entirely on your attitude and on your approach. 1- Sense of Humor : A sense of humor can help you become a successful teacher. Your sense of humor can relieve tense classroom situations before they become disruptions.A sense of humor will also make the class more enjoyable for your students and possibly make students look forward to attending and paying attention Most importantly, a sense of humor will allow you to see the joy in life and make you a happier person as you progress through this sometimes stressful career. 2- A positive Attitude A positive attitude is a great asset in life. You will be thrown many curve balls in life and especially in the teaching profession. A positive attitude will help you cope with these in the best way.Your composure will ease your possible anger and will decrease the pressure that you may face. For example, you may find out the first day of school that you are teaching English 2 instead of English 1. This wo uld not be an ideal situation, but a teacher with the right attitude would try to focus on getting through the first day without negatively impacting the students. 3- High Expectations : An effective teacher must have high expectations; you should strive to raise the bar for your students. If you expect less effort, you will receive less effort.You should work on an attitude that says that you know students can achieve to your level of expectations, thereby giving them a sense of confidence too. This is not to say that you should create unrealistic expectations. However, your expectations will be one of the key factors in helping learn and achieve. 4-Consistency: In order to create a positive learning environment, your students should know what to expect from you every day. You need to be consistent, this will create a safe learning environment for the students and they will be more likely to succeed.It is amazing that students can adapt to teachers throughout the day that range fro m strict to easy. However, they will dislike an environment in which the rules are constantly changing. 5. Fairness: Many people confuse fairness and consistency. A consistent teacher is the same person from day to day. A fair teacher treats students equally in the same situation. For example, students complain of unfairness when teachers treat one gender or group of students differently. Students pick up this so quickly, so be careful of being labeled unfair. . Flexibility: One of the tenets of teaching should be that everything is in a constant state of change. Interruptions and disruptions are the norm and very few days are typical. Therefore, a flexible attitude is important not only for your stress level, but also for your students who expect you to be in charge and take control of any situation. Defining Millennials and Their Role in the Workforce
Millennials, like baby boomers, are a group defined by their birth dates. A millennial refers to someone who was born after 1980. More specifically, Millennials are those born between 1977 and 1995 or 1980 and 2000, depending on who is writing about this generation at the moment. Also referred to as Generation Y, Generation Why, Generation Next, and Echo Boomers, this group is quickly taking over the American workforce. As of 2016, nearly half of the countrys employees fall between the ages of 20 and 44 years old. Estimated at 80 million, millennials outnumber baby boomers (73 million) and Generation X (49 million). How Millennials Grew Up The nickname Generation Why refers to the questioning nature of millennials. They have been taught to not take everything at face valueà but to really understand the reason why something is. An increase in available information thanks to the internet has only fueled this desire. Some of this is due to the fact that this is the first generation to have grown up entirely with computers. Even many born in those disputed years of 1977 to 1981 had their first interactions with computers in elementary school. Technology has played a great role in their lives and it progressed quickly as they grew up. For this reason, Millennials are at the forefront of all things tech. Raised during The Decade of the Child, Millennials also benefitted from greater parental attention than in generations past. Quite often, this included fathers who were more involved in their childrens lives. Their childhoods have influenced their understanding of gender roles in the home and the workplace as well as their future expectations. The Desire for Meaningful Work Millennials are expected to create a cultural shift in the workplace. Already, Millennials have expressed a desire to pursue work that is personally meaningful. They tend to resist corporate hierarchyà and are accustomed to getting work done in a variety of environmentsââ¬ânot simply sitting at their desks.à Flexible scheduling is of great appeal to millennials who place a high value on work-life balance. Many companies are following this trend by providing an employee-centered workplace that is flexible in both place and time. This generation is also changing the traditional approach to management. Millennials are known as multitasking team players who thrive on encouragement and feedback. Companies that can appeal to these attributes often see great gains in productivity. Millennials Are Closing the Wage Gap The millennials may also be the generation that closes the gender wage gap by the time they retire. Although women typically earn 80 cents for every dollar a man makes, among the millennials that gap is closing tighter.à Every year since 1979, the U.S. Department of Labor has issued a report on the annual average of womens earnings compared to that of men. In 1979, women earned just 62.3 percent of what men did and by 2015, that reached 81.1 percent. In that same 2015 report, women in the millennial generation were earning as much, if not more, on average each week than older women. This trend shows a significant increase in skilled labor jobs that have opened up for women in the workforce.
